It’s guac time, people! The packaged store stuff is scary and the fresh store stuff is usually expensive. So we’re making our own. It’s delicious. And it’s easy to do! Go on, impress your friends. You know you want to try it out.
What you’ll need:
1/4 cup red onion, diced
1/4 cup fresh tomatoes, diced
1/2 tsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp chili powder
Optional: chopped cilantro
squeeze of lemon juice
How to make it:
1. Peel and chop up your avocados. Throw them into a small bowl and smash with a fork (the smaller your avocado chunks, the easier they are to smash). If mashing avocados isn’t your favorite thing, use an immersion blender or even a food processor to get it to your desired consistency.
2. Add garlic salt and chili powder. Start with the measurements given, and add more to taste.
3. Mix in tomatoes, onions, and optional cilantro and lemon juice. Check taste again and add seasonings as necessary. Careful with that garlic salt.
4. Serve immediately, or chill in the fridge. Here’s a trick: if you’re covering with plastic wrap, press it flush with the guac, instead of sealing the mouth of the container. The less air that can get in, the slower it will take to brown! (PS- there’s nothing wrong with a little brown in your guac. Mix and watch it disappear).
Serves: 2-4 people, depending on how much you love guacamole
